Description
Onam is the harvest festival of Kerala. It is considered as the National festival. Onam is the reminder of an era ruled by a great demon King called Mahabali. During his period the kingdom flourished by all means and even Gods felt ashamed of heaven,that could not beat this small country on earth for its good fortune!!!!!! So, Maha Vishnu,disguised as a small brahmin boy called Vamana, came to earth to visit and conquer Mahabali,the demon King.Vamana asked Mahabali for a small piece of land.The generous King allowed him to measure and take the land instantly.The clever Vamana suddenly changed to his original form and with his two steps measured the whole world to acquire it and asked where should he keep his leg for the third step...The wise demon King asked Vamana to keep his leg on his head and gone to the world below the earth called Paatal, But he got a boon from Vamana to come back and visit his subjects once in an year which is now celebrated as Onam Festival by Keralite people,including me all over the world.We celebrate it for Mahabali who ruled us once, with songs,dances,feasts and sweets which last for ten days during the month of late August or early September.A Very Very Happy Onam To My Wonderful Friends!!!!!!!!
