Artist's Description

The heritage of Indian Puppets is to tell stories from the epics and myths depicting Gods ,Kings,Queens and great warriors. The legend about their origin goes back to 11th century that there was a carpenter who worshiped Shiva and created wooden dolls of exquisite charm in colorful cloths and costumes.....Once Lord Shiva's consort Sree Parvathi saw the dolls and adored them very much. Then Lord Shiva gave them the boon to perform in shows....so most puppeteers of India commence their shows with prayers and when the puppets decay after so many shows they are floated away in rivers after performing rituals !!!!
